Peter Klare makes large abstract wall reliefs resembling design drawings for ordinary home and office furniture. In an absurd twist, these perspectivally distorted “drawings” (called “Expanded View Pieces”) are as solid as furniture itself, meticulously crafted out of cut particleboard, white and wood grain formica, and steel screws. Seemingly useless, the objects play with the relations among form, function, and meaning, ultimately serving as a kind of overdetermined “how-to manual.”
